Wall push-ups Exercise
Wall push-ups are a beginner-friendly variation of the traditional push-up exercise. They are an excellent way to build upper body strength, especially for those who may not be ready for regular push-ups on the floor. Wall push-ups primarily target the chest, shoulders, and triceps muscles.
Here's how you can perform wall push-ups:
Stand facing a wall: Stand about arms-length away from a flat, sturdy wall. Position your feet shoulder-width apart.
Place your hands on the wall: Extend your arms forward and place your palms flat against the wall at shoulder height. Your hands should be slightly wider than shoulder-width apart.
Your fingers can either point directly forward or slightly outward, whichever feels more comfortable.
Maintain a straight body alignment: Your body should form a straight line from your head to your heels. Engage your core to keep your back flat throughout the exercise.
Perform the push-up: Lower your chest towards the wall by bending your elbows. Keep your elbows close to your body as you descend. Aim to bring your chest as close to the wall as possible without touching it.
Push back up: Push through your palms to straighten your arms and return to the starting position.
Repeat: Perform the desired number of repetitions. Start with a comfortable number and gradually increase as you become stronger.
Tips for Proper Form:
- Focus on controlled movements rather than rushing through the exercise.
- Keep your neck aligned with your spine by looking straight ahead or slightly downward.
- Breathe steadily throughout the movement, inhaling as you lower and exhaling as you push back up.
- As you progress, you can increase the difficulty by stepping your feet farther from the wall or by performing inclined push-ups on an elevated surface like a sturdy table or bench.
Wall push-ups are an excellent way to build strength and confidence before progressing to more challenging push-up variations. As with any exercise, if you experience any pain or discomfort, stop immediately and consult with a fitness professional or healthcare provider
